Chasing Life
I would like to introduce you today to a new series.. it's first episode aired last Tuesday in the US and I was really impressed by it! It's called Chasing Life and it's a drama series and it's actually adapted from the Mexican television series Terminales. The series is about a 24-year old woman called April Carver who gets diagnosed with cancer. As I have already seen in the first episode of the series, April Carver has a lot on her plate at this time of her life. She just landed her first reporting assignment, she has just met a new guy at workwith whom she's making progress with. Additionally, her any extra free time is devoted to making sure her family doesn't completely fall to pieces. And as if all those things wouldn't be enough, she has just been diagnosed with cancer.
On the whole, that's how I was introducted to April in the first episode of Chasing Life. After passing out at a blood drive, her doctor (who is actually her uncle) confronts her outside her house with the shocking news. At first, she couldn't believe that she actually has cancer because she is just 24 years old.. Her first reaction is just full of fear and denial and as I thought a little bit of her reaction I came to the conclusion that I probably couldn't believe it if anything like that would happen to me. Of course, I can't exactly imagine how it feels to get such news (Thank God I have never had to experience such thing by myself), however, I can imagine that you simply can't believe when being suddenly confronted with cancer. Back to the series.. as a reaction to getting this news, April attemptrs to throw herself into her work, despite the severity of her diagnosis, until she eventually breaks down in tears during a moment alone. She is facing the whole situation and her fight alone. She doesn't want to tell her mother, who "can't remember being this happy" after returning from her first online date. April just can't tell her because she simply fears to break her mother's heart with her diagnosis. This is, in general, what the first episode is about. April is facing the whole situation all alone and you see how her facade of strength more and more collapes..
I really, really enjoyed the first episode and I like the main character April Carver, who is played by Italia Ricci, very, very much. I am really looking forward to next week's episode and I am very curious what happens next as there was a real cliffhanger in the last few minutes of the first episode.. but surely I won't tell you what the cliffhanger was about because I would really recommend watching the episode and I definitely don't want to spoil you! (:
