New York City in 7 days
In February 2012 my boyfriend Sebastian and I had the pleasure to visit New York City for the very first time and it was simply amazing :) Approximately a half year before, we had been very lucky to discover a real bargain - Austrian Airlines offered a very cheap flight from Vienna to New York City, but we had to make up our minds quickly because there was just one day left to book the flight. However, it was no hard decision for us and therefore we decided very quickly that we definitely wanted to visit New York City. A half year later, we found ourselves in the middle of the sea of lights of New York City.
In New York City, there is simply just so much to explore. Whether you are interested in museums or you want to be entertained by a Broadway musical, there is a wide range of things that are offered to you. My boyfriend and I had been a little bit overextended when we had been planning our trip to the city before we got there last year. We had surfed the web a lot for different things that we could do in New York City before we came across a very interesting web page, the web page of the ‘New York Pass’.
The New York Pass is a little card which allows you to visit over 80 New York tourist attractions. On the web page they tell that the pass is a little bit like an ‘all you can eat buffet’ and I think this is the best description for the New York Pass. Once you have payed for the pass, you don’t have to pay any time you want to visit an attraction - you just show your card and here you go! :) It’s very simple. Moreover, probably the best thing about the pass and especially the reason why we had decided for the pass is that you can save a lot of money with it. The price we paid for the whole pass with the ability to visit over 80 attractions was much lower than the price we would have paid without the pass for all the attractions we actually had visited.
If you want to buy the New York Pass, you have some options. You can either buy the pass for 1, 2, 3 or 7 days and the price depends on how much days you actually buy. We decided on the 7-day-version because we wanted to have enough time to really use the full capacity of the pass ;) We paid 170$ for it, but these days the price is a little bit higher, approximately 200$, because in February 2012 they had a special offer which we were happy to grab.
In fact, it was an extremely good decision to take the New York Pass, because we were able to visit so many things that we probably wouldn’t have visited without the pass for the reason we even wouldn’t have known that these things were in fact that much awesome. For example, in the pass it was included to go bowling right at the corner of Times Square (to be honest - doesn’t it just sound amazing to go bowling near Times Square? And when do you actually have the chance to do that?) and it turned out to be simply great and very funny! We met a class of high school there and they did a really god job in bowling which actually showed us pretty clearly how bad we were ;) But that didn’t matter so much because it was fun anyway! With this kind of ‘tourist attraction’, you can really submerge into the American way of life and you get the feeling that you are actually part of the city. Admittedly, we wouldn’t have decided to go bowling without the pass, that’s why I am very thankful that we had chosen to buy the pass.
Moreover, bowling was not the only thing we did with the help of the pass. We also visited some museums, for example the Skyscraper Museum down in the financial district of Manhatten, or the American Museum of National History which also was a great visit. To be honest, the decision to visit the Skyscraper Museum was made because we were actually getting quite cold as we were visiting New York in February. For this reason, we went into the museum just to warm ourselves up a little bit. But instead of just warming us up, we were getting very interested in, for example, the history of skyscrapers all over the world ;)
Summing up, I want to say that the New York Pass was really worth it and I am very glad that we found it on the Internet. I can strongly recommend it to any visitor of New York City :)
