A Halloween Evening?

So, here I am now. Right now I am sitting in front of my laptop in a pretty cosy room on the Halloween evening with a lot of thoughts on my mind. Outside it is already getting dark and soon more and more children will run through the streets scaring people to death with their dreadful costumes.. and I just thought this would be a great time to actually go online and finally start blogging. To be honest, I am not quite sure if there will actually be so much children coming out of their houses tonight. Given the fact that I am in Austria, more precisely in a pretty small town in Lower Austria, it's quite unlikely to get attacked by hundreds of little creatures out there. That is why I have been thinking about other things you could do on the Halloween evening to frighten yourself a little bit and I have come up with what I think is a pretty good and scary movie you could spend tonight's evening with..

The movie I am talking about is called 'Saw' and as for me it's a really gruesome one. In fact, I saw it a few years ago and it really scared me off. It's definitely none of the movies you should watch when you are home alone, because then nobody will be there to step in front of the television in the moments when it's really getting brutal and you are thinking you can't watch any longer.. But let me introduce you now to 'Saw'..

'Saw' is actually not just one movie, but a series of horror films, starting with the first one in 2004 and this is the one I am going to talk about. The movie begins with a scene taking place in a dilapidated subterranean bathroom. In there, two men who are chained to pipes awake and immediately see a corpse lying face-down in a puddle of blood with a microcassette recorder and a revolver in his hands. The two men, Adam and Lawrence, find tapes in their pockets and are able to play them with the little recorder. While Adam's tape instructs him to escape, Lawrence's tape tells him to kill Adam before six o'clock otherwise his wife and daughter will be killed and he will be left to die. A little hint at the end of the message of the tapes lets Adam look into the toilet tank near him and he finds two hacksaws. After an unsuccessful attempt to cut the chains with the hacksaw, Lawrence realizes that the saws are not meant for the chains but for their feet. He immediately tells Adam that he thinks that the 'Jigsaw Killer' has to be in charge of capturing them. But why does he know?

In a flashback, it is revealed that Lawrence is in fact an oncologyst. In the flashback you see him talking to students about a patient named John Kramer, who suffers from an frontal lobe tumor. He then is approached by detectives, who found Lawrence's penlight at the scene of a Jigsaw 'game'. Although he is cleared by an alibi, he agrees to view the testimony of Amanda Young, a heroin addict and the only known survivor of a game of Jigsaw. The movie reveals that during that 'game' Amanda had to kill a man to save herself and now she believes that Jigsaw, who had captured her to play that 'game', actually helped her.

The movie then goes on with several of that 'games' that Jigsaw is to be charged for. As it goes on you get to know that Jigsaw arranges these games only for people who are for example helpless in their lifes and with the help of the games Jigsaw wants to awaken the peoples' will to live and in order to do so he lets them do the most horrible things you can imagine of. One of his victims, for example, was a man who had to get through a caged-in razor-wire maze. Jigsaw believes, that if the people really wanted to live, they would be able to do those horrible things. Unless they do so, they won't deserve living.

At that point, I want to stop telling you more about the movie, because I would really advise you try and watch it by yourself :) But be aware that it's a really brutal and frightening movie and that it will possibly really scare you off with its nerve-racking scenes.. the best movie for Halloween! :)
